Ship Install boating route 1: The North Brabant Waterways

The North Brabant Waterways

A sailing route through North Brabant can quickly lead to several short city trips. This is not very surprising since both ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Breda and Tilburg are located by the water and are therefore easily accessible by boat.

All three cities have their own charm. ‘s-Hertogenbosch is known for its Burgundian character and Breda has a very rich past and is also one of the most pleasant cities in Noord-Brabant. But also, Tilburg has its secrets. Some people think that Tilburg is an unsociable city, but this is not the case. Tilburg offers many undiscovered pubs; you can have a great dinner and there is an exciting nightlife. So, there is something for everyone!

A boat route through North Brabant combines city and nature

Not only the cozy cities in Brabant, but also the natural surroundings are definitely worth a visit. Especially at the Wilhelminakanaal there is a beautiful, wooded area with landscaped walking and cycling paths. In addition, Safaripark Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek is also on the route and definitely worth a visit. Especially when you are travelling with children, this can be a nice stopover.

Fortress town Heusden

And of course, ‘our’ own fortified town of Heusden cannot be missed on the route through Brabant. A trip through one of the oldest moated castles is guaranteed to make for a wonderful afternoon. Not only on the water, but also on land there are beautiful things to discover. The city harbour at the market square of Heusden offers the opportunity to moor and explore the city. The characteristic streets and narrow alleys invite to be explored after which you can enjoy a refreshing drink on the terrace.

The sailing route through North Brabant

The sailing route through North Brabant is outlined below:

  1. The starting point of the North Brabant sailing route is Breda, which can be reached via the river Mark. This river runs right through the centre of Breda, making it easy to moor here.

  1. Then it is easy to sail eastwards along the Mark Canal. This will bring you to the Wilhelmina canal that will take you in the direction of Tilburg. To see more of the city of Tilburg, it is best to turn to the Piushaven at kilometre point 27.

  1. From Tilburg, the next stop is Safaripark Beekse Bergen, which has its own marina, so you can moor here carefree.

  1. Via Aarle-Rixtel, at the junction of the Wilhelmina Canal and the Zuid-Willemsvaart, you can then sail straight to ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Heusden.

We wish you a lot of boating pleasure on this wonderful route in North Brabant!
